How to care for your system...

on starting your hair replacement journey! There is no going back! (just kidding) but now that you’ve seen how good you look with hair why would you ! So regardless of whether or not you are choosing to do your own maintenance or planning on coming back to us, you should still know how to maintain and troubleshoot any issues you might have with your system!

Below we have attached videos, lists, and instructions that cover everything you will need to know to have a successful hair system journey!

Please be aware that, everyone's hair system journey varies widely! some clients can only expect days of hold times while others get weeks! It is very important for the first 48 hours after getting your system you do your best not sweat and avoid any moisture around the edges of your system, this is how long it takes for the tape or glue to be its strongest! If you have any lifting after a few days, it will most likely be in the hairline area, which is where we have the most sweat & oil glands. Simply blow dry the area with cool air and press your system down firmly. Unless your system is lifting more than 1 finger width, you should not worry!

Daily Maintenance

Brush the Hair System Regularly: Use a wide-tooth comb or a soft-bristle brush to gently detangle your hair system each day. Start at the ends and work your way up to the roots to avoid breakage or damage.

Avoid Over-Washing: Hair systems don’t need to be washed every day. Over-washing can strip the hair of its natural oils. Aim to wash it 1-2 times a week or as needed, if you are getting chlorine or salt water in it.

Gentle Shampoo: Use sulfate-free, mild shampoo designed for wigs or hair systems. Sulfates can damage the hair, and a gentle shampoo will help preserve the integrity of the hair fibers.

Conditioning: Apply a hydrating conditioner to keep the hair soft. Avoid applying conditioner directly to the base of the hair system (where the hair meets the scalp) to avoid loosening the bond.

Detangle Properly: Always detangle your hair when it’s damp, not soaking wet, to avoid breakage. Apply a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray to help ease the process.

Showering with a Hair System

Water Temperature Keep the Water Lukewarm: Avoid hot water, as it can weaken adhesive bonds, especially with bonded or glued hair systems. Lukewarm or cool water is best.

Shampooing Use a Shower Cap (If Glued/Bonded): If your hair system is attached with adhesive, consider wearing a shower cap to prevent it from getting wet. If you want to wash the hair system itself, be careful to not let water reach the bond.

Avoid Saturating the Base When washing, be mindful of the base (especially if it’s a lace, polyurethane, or silk base). Keep the water flow gentle and direct it mainly toward the hair itself. If water does get on the base, gently pat it dry with a towel.

Rinsing When rinsing, avoid directing the water flow directly on the bond area. Instead, gently tilt your head back and let the water run over the hair while avoiding the scalp and attachment areas.

Drying After showering, gently pat the hair with a towel to absorb excess moisture. Do not rub the hair as it can cause tangling or breakage. If your hair system is glued or taped, allow it to air dry completely before applying any styling products or brushing.

Sleeping with a Hair System

Protect the Hair Wear a Silk or Satin Cap/Bonnet: This helps reduce friction that can lead to tangling and breakage while you sleep. Silk and satin are gentle on both natural and synthetic hair. Pillowcase: If you prefer not to wear a cap, make sure you’re using a satin or silk pillowcase. Cotton can cause friction, leading to tangling or damage over time.

Sleep Position Sleep on Your Back: Try to sleep on your back or with your head elevated slightly to avoid the hair system getting compressed or tangled while you sleep.

Adjust the Bond (If Needed) Check the Adhesive: If you're using adhesive (like tape or glue), you may need to do a touch-up on the bonds if they loosen during sleep, especially if you’re a restless sleeper.

Styling Your Hair System

Combing and Brushing Always use a wide-tooth comb or a brush with soft bristles designed for wigs or hair systems to avoid damaging the hair. Start detangling from the ends of the hair, gradually working your way up to the roots. This prevents breakage.

Heat Styling Human hair systems can be styled with heat tools, but always use the lowest heat setting possible. Always apply a heat protectant spray before using blow dryers, straighteners, or curling irons to prevent damage. Avoid Heat on synthetic hair (only hair systems with high grey percentage have synthentic fibers)

Drying the Hair Air Dry or Blow Dry on Low Heat: If possible, allow the hair to air dry naturally. If you're blow-drying, keep the heat on low and use a diffuser attachment to avoid direct heat exposure. Avoid rubbing the hair with a towel, as this can cause tangling and frizz.

Bond and Adhesive Maintenance

Reinforcing the Bond (For Adhesive-Worn Systems) Check the Bond Regularly: If you're using adhesive or tapes, monitor the bond daily. For tape systems, replace the tape every 1-2 weeks or as needed, depending on wear and tear. For glue, check the bond every 2-4 weeks and reapply as necessary.

Remove Adhesive Safely Use Adhesive Remover: When it’s time to remove the hair system, use a professional adhesive remover specifically designed for wigs or hair systems to avoid damaging the lace or polyurethane base. Apply the remover to the edges and gently peel away the system.

Clean the Base Clean the base of the hair system carefully with a mild cleanser or a specialized wig shampoo to remove any adhesive residue and maintain its longevity.

General Tips

Avoid Harsh Chemicals Avoid using products with alcohol, sulfates, or other harsh chemicals on your hair system. These can dry out the hair and cause the fibers to break down faster.

Protect the Hair from Sun and Environmental Factors Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure: Prolonged sun exposure can cause hair systems to fade or dry out, especially if they’re made of synthetic fibers. If you plan to be out in the sun for extended periods, consider wearing a hat or applying a UV protectant designed for wigs and hairpieces.

Regular Maintenance Appointments Visit a Professional: Depending on the type of hair system you have, schedule regular appointments with your stylist or technician for cleaning, adjustments, and repairs. They can re-apply adhesives, trim the hair system, or do any necessary repairs to keep it in good shape.

Store Your Hair System Properly When you're not wearing your hair system, store it on a mannequin head or a wig stand to maintain its shape and avoid tangling. If you're storing it for an extended period, make sure it's clean and completely dry before storing it in a cool, dry place.

By following this aftercare maintenance regimen, you can significantly extend the lifespan of your hair system while keeping it looking fresh, natural, and in optimal condition.
